The Appleton offers a variety of opportunities for adults to learn something new and practice or fine-tune existing skills. Courses and workshops range from one day to multi-week sessions with local artists, art instructors and special visiting artists. Art 101

Let these one-day workshops inspire your creative side and provide a relaxed, successful experience. Appropriate for ages 16 and older; all materials are included.

Sumi-e Painting: Tuesday, March 12, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Click here to enroll.

Cost per one-day workshop: $40 for Appleton members; $60 for nonmembers.


Explore painting through these multi-week workshops, taught by artist Vanessa Fuller Brown. All materials are included and all skill levels are welcome.

These six-week sessions offer potters of all skill levels a chance to practice and develop new skills and techniques in hand building and wheel throwing through fun and functional ceramic projects such as serving sets, vases, or your own creative expressions. Fee includes 25 lbs. of clay, glazes, firing, and extra studio time from 1-4 p.m. on select Saturdays.

Saturdays, 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (Hand-building and wheel-throwing run concurrently.)

Open Studio Clay

Open studio time is available to ages 16 and older who have previously completed one six-week Dig into Clay session.

Option 1: Your choice of six Saturday afternoons (February 2-April 27), 1-4 p.m. Includes access to a variety of glazes and firing of all work completed during the studio session. 25 lb. bags of clay can be purchased for $30.

Option 2: Pay-as-you-go each Saturday, (February 2-April 27), 1-4 p.m.

Cost per Saturday: $40 for Appleton members; $60 for nonmembers

Watercolor Workshop

Learn from the masters in this new series of classes, designed for those who are ready to take their work to the next level.

Thursdays, February 21, March 7, March 14 and March 28, 6-8 p.m.

Whether a beginner, intermediate or advanced, it’s time to have fun painting with watercolor. In this four-week class, learn at your own pace with plenty of hands-on painting time in class and one-on-one instructor assistance with informative critiques. Materials not included; a supply list will be provided upon registration.
