Ripples and Waves

“Ripples and Waves” showcases gel-plate printmaking created by children, adults and Education staff at the Appleton Museum of Art.

Gel-plate printmaking uses a vegan gelatin plate that is pressed on to paper. First in the printmaking process, the paints, stamps and stencils are used to make designs on the gelatin plate. Next, paper is then pressed against the plate. When it is lifted off, it reveals the finished artwork. The gelatin plate can then be washed clean and used once again.

Children from the Boys and Girls Club of Marion County contributed one of their prints made in a special Appleton workshop in summer 2024. Maritzabel Jauregui-Rodriguez, Appleton Education Assistant and Instructor, crafted by hand a koi fish diptych to complement the artwork (detail pictured here).
