“Strength and Resilience” presents a collaboration between metal sculptor Carmen Rojas Ginés and fine artist and tattooist Naomi Shanti.
The exhibition features “Guerreras,” a series of 12 metal sculptures inspired by the women who have shaped Carmen’s life. “These pieces are my teachers,” she says, “the women who have guided and taught me through their own life experiences.”
Moved by Carmen’s work, Naomi created 12 original tattoos interpreting each sculpture through her own perspective, life story and the experiences of the individuals she tattooed. Blending natural elements like birds and flora with bold lines and form, her designs celebrate strength, resilience and the warrior spirit within women. Naomi then photographed the individuals and created unique works of art that feature her inspired tattoos.
The result is a soft yet dynamic juxtaposition, merging body, art and nature in a powerful expression of identity and transformation.
Exhibition Talk
Saturday, May 17, 2 p.m.
Join us in the auditorium for a talk featuring the two artists, who will share insights into their collaborative process and the stories behind the works on view. Also hear directly from the individuals who became part of the project — not just as models, but as storytellers. Each received a custom tattoo inspired by Rojas Ginés’ sculptures and brought to life through Shanti’s artistry. This talk is free; no reservation needed to attend.
